If you are seeing this, that means my new site on Dreamhost is up*. I’m going to be restoring all the posts from my previous site, but I think it will be easier once the domain name is transferred.
The flash homepage is down for now, and I’m not sure if I’ll put it back up yet or not. It depends on how much time I have during the next couple months. I may slightly revamp the site to make it overall more flexible and not so contained in the tiny box I have it in now.
Aside from the site changing, many things are going on. I’m selling my beloved truck that has served me very well over the years. I’ve bought airfare on Virgin Atlantic for my trip to Europe. I have a new backpack! And, I’ve experienced what it’s like to be robbed.
Yes, robbed. Some jerk smashed my passenger side window and grabbed all that was worth taking out of the cab of my truck. Which, at the time, what my mobile phone, my ipod, tennis racket & bag and all my LowePro camera bag containing two lenses and several accessories. The thief got lucky - he picked a good vehicle to prowl.
Initially, I blamed myself. I was in West Seattle for a BaKongo rehearsal. I didn’t want to bring in my phone, because I’d be distracted if it rang and it would interupt us. I’ve left my phone in my car numerous times, more than I can count. I didn’t think West Seattle was such a bad place, so I didn’t even think twice about leaving it this time. My iPod hasn’t moved from it’s spot near the gearshift in months. But I guess the combination of the phone, the iPod and the apparently attractive backpacks in the back was too much for the robber bastard. And he was right! paydirt.
Oddly enough, I got to practice right at 6:30. And, I was on the phone with the police reporting the break-in a few minutes before 7:00. Carol had been outside talking on the phone, and one of the other drummers showed up late. So, this robber was watching, was quick and efficient to do it in such a short timeframe.
Anyhow. Nothing that was stolen is covered by insurance. Which sucks. But, that’s life. I cancelled my renters insurance a couple months ago when I moved my stuff into storage. My renters insurance would only cover up to 10% of the replacement cost of items in storage, so that’s basically worthless. I didn’t even consider getting ripped off like this, so I cancelled the renters policy. Whoops. Everything would have been covered if I hadn’t done that. Auto insurance only covers the actual auto, not any personal property inside it. Which, I think is a friggin farce. The stuff is inside my car! why wouldn’t my car insurance cover it? Dunno.
I don’t need that stuff anyway. Blaming myself is the default some times most of the time, but really, I should know not to leave my mobile phone and iPod in plain view! My friend Robert is adamant about that, and whenever he’s been with me driving somewhere, he always reminded me to stow them away. Smart man. Those backpacks had been sitting in the extended cab for weeks and I hadn’t touched them. I should have put it all in storage and I really don’t know why I didn’t. ‘Twasn’t important enough and I am a nieve SOB …

* my first few days at dreamhost have been quite rocky. I didn’t research them deep enough to find out that they’ve been having datacenter problems for months. I got a GREAT deal, but what good is 200 GB of storage if you can’t access it???
