We had to get reservations for the train from Milan to Bern - we started the morning off by mis-judging the time needed to get from the hotel to the station, then find the right reservation line and get on the train. We made it on the train in plenty of time, but there were a few tense moments there. I don’t think we’d had breakfast or coffee yet. And, I was feeling irritable with an impending cold coming on.
The ride to Bern was nice. We sat in one of the semi-private compartments on the train. We were the last car. A very nice woman named Beatrice shared out compartment. She was beautiful and had a great accent. I couldn’t quite place it, though, as she said she was from Argentina, but she lived in Montreaux, Switzerland and she sounded very French to me … It was interesting talking with her and we parted ways as she was traveling farther than us.
Jay, Monique and the kids met us at the station as we got off the train. They bought us lunch, these really good kebap things (like a gyros) and we lugged our bags up to Jay’s new office directly above the train station. We hung out there, ate and then headed to their place.
It was good to be there. My cold was getting worse and I was tired. One of the bags I had was filled with gifts for the kids. I was glad to carry it there for the family, but was even more glad to get rid of it! The rest of this day we just chilled and prepared for xmas.
We couldn’t see much of Bern as it was cold and very overcast. I definitely didn’t feel like venturing out in my state.
