Almost a repeat of Monday! ![]()
I slept in a bit. Got some good rest and just generally took it easy. I did some blog maintenance where I found I had mis-stamped some posts for December 2007. Whoops. I did some flickr maintenance too. One web site note: the archives seem to be fully operational now. They are very cool! Visit them if you haven’t. They use AJAX and I like how they operate without reloading the page. (Let me know if you have any problems with the archives.) I’ve also added some new header images (the image at the top of the page) from my current trip.
After I finished goofing off, I sped out of the house to make it to another free concert at St Martins. I got there just in time! I had a little trouble with my transport there after I went the wrong way at the Oxford Circus station and ended up outside instead of on the Bakerloo line. I took a wrong turn and had hoped I could take a turn somewhere to get back in the right direction. Instead I was on a loooooong escalator back to street level. I went back into the station and then my Oyster card balance was too low to get back through the turnstile. Then the Oyster top-up wouldn’t take my credit card, so I had to get cash. Back to the Oyster top-up machine and input cash. After that I was in! I hopped on the Bakerloo line to Charring Cross station and whipped up the loooooong escalator to Trafalgar Square and walked quickly to St Martins.
My new friend Trevor was there and the seats were pretty full. I sat a row behind him, tapped him on the shoulder and he swapped seats to join me. The concert was good. Performing was the Lendvai String Trio. They played Beethoven String Trio in G op 9 No 1 and Martinu String Trio No 2. Both pieces were excellent! It’s definitely a great place for music.
We retreated to the cafe in the crypt again for lunch and tea and sat again talking for a couple hours. I didn’t have any grand plans for the afternoon. I wanted to shoot back to the National Gallery and see a couple sections I didn’t get to yesterday. And, I walked by Big Ben and Parliament and along the Thames to the London Eye and area. I think I am almost done with London. It is a huge, tiring city! Tomorrow I am going to try and make it to the Natural History and Science museums. Maybe it’s just all the art overload that’s killing me? A little science perhaps? We’ll see.
I got back to Christina’s and we headed to a local pub called The North Pole or something like that. The bartender girl was pretty clueless. I said I wanted an English beer and she couldn’t tell me which ones they had on tap were English! And then she could barely help Christina pick out a wine. Not the best London pub experience, I gather. We talked about various stuff for a while and were done with our beverages. Christina wanted to get some wine at the corner shop - they call their liquor stores “Off License” for reasons I’m still not quite sure of. I bought a tall-boy 16 oz. beer to enjoy tomorrow. I can’t remember the name of it at the moment …
