My birthday was quite nice. The highlight was dinner in the evening. While I was online earlier in the day doing some working and arrangements in Spain, I looked up some restaurants in the area. I didn’t want to go far, and found Adam’s Café was right down the street. It was definitely the most interesting restaurant listing in the area and I couldn’t find a bad review for the place. I emailed the link to Christina and she concurred.
And, it was quite good. A bit more of a walk than I anticipated, but it wasn’t a bad night to be out. Askew Road was definitely a slightly different area than Shepherd’s Bush and it was interesting to walk from one type of area to another and notice the change. I had the vegetarian couscous as a main course and a soup-start called harira. Christina enjoyed three different starters and seemed to enjoy them all. We both enjoyed a nice bottle of “dark and silky” Moroccan Merlot. The atmosphere of Adam’s Café was quite a bit nicer than I had imagined. The lights were dim, each table had a small oil lamp burning. I think there may have been very quiet music playing and the whole place smelled delicious. It was actually quite a romantic place, really.
I had most of the wine as Christina had to work the next day. I was ok with that as it was good stuff. We hopped on the bus and made it back to her place nice and quick. I checked email and chatted a bit and snapped a picture of us against her wishes. She was prepared for the shot, but did not want to smile. I don’t think it was because she was unhappy, maybe it has more to do with being German? I dunno. She’ll have to chime in on that one.
She gave me an unexpected bday present - a very neat insideout guide to Paris. I’d seen these guides in the store, but they were too expensive and my practical side always choose the multiple-city/country guides over the smaller city-specific guides. I don’t have a guide to Paris, yet, so the gift is excellent!
The wine was working well on me and I was quite tired. It was quite late too and someone had to work the next day. I hope I thanked Christina again for the gift and for her hospitality, because I can’t thank her enough for letting me stay with her here in London. It has been a great place to crash! And, a great place and time to celebrate my birthday.
