I’m in Windhoek now, getting ready to depart tomorrow morning on safari.
My stay in Swakopmund ended up pretty decent. Yesterday was a blast … sand boarding in the morning and quad riding in the dunes in the afternoon. Then in the evening, I met my sand boarding partner and another new friend, Soren, at a bar along with Kyle from Alter Action to watch the video Kyle took of us boaring earlier. I have a VCD of it and will post it to my site some day. After the video, we had dinner at De Kalder and then headed back to the hostel. It was one of the best Valentine’s Day’s on record, even though I don’t have a significant other!
I’m pretty tired, and think I need a nap. Apparently, Windhoek is even more dangerous than Swakopmund, so going out to get the 1000+ namibian dollars I need for the trip does not sound like fun to me. I’m hoping to go out to diner with some others from the hostel and maybe I can swing by an ATM then. Or, maybe I just take a taxi to and from and play it safe? I dunno. I hate the fear of getting mugged, and I’ve never actually been mugged …
Gotta go, intenet time is running down. I may not be online for email or blog posting until after the safari on the 23rd.
Sounds like you had an even better Valentine than I had (w/ my fiance in a mug-free zone)! Glad to hear you are having such a cool time. It sounds like SA is better in some ways than you expected but worse in others. I’m really looking forward to hearing or reading about the Safari. Give me a call or txt when you are back in the ol’ dreary civilization.
