The Presidents Rock

I went to see The Presidents of the United States of America at the Pyramid Brewery“Get Snowed In” concert last night and had an absolute blast!

I hadn’t seen PUSA live before and heard they put on a great show. Sure enough, it is by far the most fun I’ve ever had at a concert! I don’t know what it is about them that’s so fun. It’s got something to do with how unpretentious they are and how silly and how much fun they have on stage. They’re so positive in a jump around and scream way and the crowd reacts to that. The vibe at the snowed in concerts in the past have always been very jovial. Pyramid serves one of their, if not their, strongest beers in their lineup - Snow Cap Ale. It’s a great beer, but with 7% abv, it gets you tanked pretty quick. The concert wouldn’t be the same without it. There were a bunch of people actually “moshing” this year, which hadn’t happened in the past. I guess PUSA are just that energizing that they cause people to get a little stupid along with the help of Snow Cap.

Other than that fun, I didn’t work much on Friday, taking mostly what was a much-needed day off. I met some of the design crew from Fluke and Fluke Networks for lunch in Fremont. Annette, Bill, Louis, Steve and Janet came down. They grilled me with questions about my trip, and I gladly told all I could while stuffing my face and drinking a Stella. They were gracious enough to buy me lunch! Thanks guys … actually I think it was all or mostly Janet who paid for me. After that I met up with Liz, a girl I met at a party last weekend. We went to the Ballard locks, where she’d never been, then had tea on Queen Anne hill then went to see the bargain-4:15 showing of “The Darjeeling Limited” at the Guild 45.

I liked it a lot and having seen it, I want to go to India! But, sometimes I’m easily influenced by movies I like, so … we’ll see how long that idea lasts.

After the movie, Liz and I went to eat some typical Meximerican food down the street at Guadalajara. All in all it was a fun afternoon and it was nice getting to know Liz a bit more. She’s a nice girl, but a bit young for me (22) and I can’t say there’s any interest there other than a friend and possible client. She has a catering company called Mad Platter Foods that I’ll hopefully help with some identity (logo and such) and web presence work. I’m probably disappointing her by not being interested any further than that. What am I to do, though. (No one has to answer that …)

The concert was definitely a highlight of the week. Ah, and I almost forgot! I had a nice Wednesday night out in Fremont with Janine, whom I house-sat for last Oct.. We met at El Camino and had a bit to eat and a margarita. After we ate and drank we went to ToST to check out the weekly Seattle Poetry Slam. We didn’t stay for the whole thing, but it was cool to check out.

I’m working more and more, picking up some great work from various places and more possibilities coming in all the time. I’m still on the floor at Robert’s, hoping to change that ASAP. My emails to various house-share ads have frustratingly went unanswered for the most part. I’m not sure what’s going on there, as these bastards must not need to rent out their room that badly! Or maybe I’m just not coming across as a great potential room mate? Who knows. They’re missing out on a great room mate, I think! :)

I miss miss miss traveling and being in Europe. I think I miss not working more, and try to keep myself from getting too sucked into working so non-stop day-to-day. There’ve been a few days where I didn’t leave the house! I can’t do that. Getting outside, even for a walk around the block is too good for me not to do it. Getting a bike ride in is even better. I think things are going really well, though. I’m happy with the amount of work I have and if I can keep at it through these next few months I’ll be well on my way to doing more what I want.

Pyramid Beer is the best!!! We don’t get it here of course. My favorite is Hefeweisen. We do finally have Full Sail, but Pyramid is better.
