things are heating up

I am referring to the presidential race, at least. I’m debating right now whether I want to keep posting opinionated stuff like this to my blog. On one hand, some people tell me that I shouldn’t have political or religious or anything that might cast myself in any kind of negative light on my “professional” site. Which, this is sort of my professional site. If someone asks for a portfolio, I give them http://steve-wilson.net/portfolio/ and off they go. The “Home” button which links to my “blog” is only pixels away and any potential or current client could click it and see my potentially volatile blathering.Anyway. Regardless. Whatever … I like this quick summary. Aside from the ordering of the candidates.

I’ve decided to cast my primary vote here in Washington State for Barack Obama. I’m very skeptical of all politicians, especially Republicans, but out of all the candidates Obama seems to me like the only one who might actually do something different. Hillary, as great as I think it would be to see a woman in the White House, is just not the right candidate. To me she’s riding too much on the Clinton name - sure, I think Bill was a great president, and certainly if Hillary was elected he’d have his say in matters. But, without going to deep into her background, I think she’s just as corrupt and in the pocket of corporate (Wal-mart? hello?) and special interests (accepting mucho money from the defense industry? Wha?) as any other politician. Of course, so could Obama be. However is he so new to Washington, he hasn’t had time to be sucked to far in to the corrupt underworld. At least, that’s my impression. Some think his age and experience is a detriment, but I think it’s a huge benefit. Yes, that’s a very slight and immature view of the political situation, but it’s all I’m willing to go into.

Let’s see … what else to report … Ah yes, my little 8-day vacation to Arizona. The Grand Canyon hike was excellent. I stayed with Paul and Heather and with Scott and Wendy. I also had a business meeting and dinner with Pam and Pam and Lance. It was good to see them all and it was a swell trip overall. So good that I came back wondering just slightly what it would be like to live there again. But, then I got back to Seattle and that thought vanished quickly.

I’m getting closer to making a decision on what I’m doing for 2008. The options are overwhelming, and I think I just need to pare back to what I really want. And, I think I want to explore my interest in farming more. Not wwoof necessarily, even though I’ve already joined wwoof USA. I’m thinking more of committing to an apprenticeship of sorts. Traveling sounds great, however when I delve a bit deeper than what sounds good on the surface, doing something more towards a long-term goal is what I really want to do.

And, whoa! I’ve now been vouched for FOUR times by couchsurfers around the world! Thanks guys! http://www.couchsurfing.com/people/steve-wilson. Damn, when I go looking at the couchsurfing site, I want to travel again! Shit. So much for getting close to a decision…
